Aberdeenshire Local Development Plan 2010 Proposed Plan : Update 13th July 2010

The Proposed Aberdeenshire Local Development Plan is Aberdeenshire Council’s set view on what new land should be made available for building in the period to 2016, and gives a firm indication of what land should be brought forward for the period to 2023. It also contains policies which will be used for assessing planning applications across Aberdeenshire. The proposed plan itself is short, concise and map based document. Much of the detail has been presented in seven volumes of supplementary guidance. Copies of all the documents are available online at On Aberdeenshire website, at local libraries or area offices, or main proposed new housing section can be downloaded from Torphins.org.

Planning Applications

One of the items that came up for discussion this week at the TCC meeting was an application to erect a 40m high wind speed monitoring mast on a hill behind Pitmurchie House. Although this isn't under Torphins TCC (Lumphann Community Council area), it may be of interest to Torphins Residents. The application is from Andrew Bradford (Kincardine House) and his agent Green Cat Renewables, Biggar.

Members of the community can comment directly on this application at the Aberdeenshire Website here, closing date is 8th July 2010.

Youth Meeting in Learney Hall : 24th June 2010

The event, organised by Torphins Community Council, was a continuation of the process of gathering the views of all sections of our community in the build-up towards the production of the Torphins Community Action Plan and also a means whereby we could engage with the youth of Torphins.

As part of this engagement in engaging the youth of the area, a number of activities were arranged in the main Hall whilst in the small hall, there was a large wall post-it facility for expression of opinions and wishes on the matter of the future of Torphins.

All present contributed enthusiastically and at the end, the post-it facility was full of constructive and interesting comments. In addition they enjoyed the Coka Cola, Irn Bru, pizza and crisps which we provided.

A very special vote of gratitude goes to Liz Moore for the very hard work she put into organising the event and in addition for the provision of the food and refreshments.

Thanks also to Anna Fraser, Emma Pattullo, Rona, and the Council Youth workers and all the other volunteer who helped in making this event the success it was.

A report on the event and other Council Action Plan matters will be reviewed by the community Council.

Queen Victoria's Monument

Torphins Community Council needs your help! We have recently had Queen Victoria's Monument, in the Learney Arms car park, cleaned and repaired.

Queen Victoria's Monument
To finish the job properly, we want to replace the missing decorative water outlet. The problem is - we don't know what was originally there!! If anyone can help with old photos, or the like, can they please contact Emma at 'Platform 22' - tel. 82039. Emma has kindly offered to recreate the original water outlet - if we can find out what it looked like.
